From Jerry Greenberg

My name is Jerry Greenberg. For 50 years, I ran a business called Frame It in Brooklyn, which I founded in 1969. We served hundreds of retail stores across the country, as well as many of the country’s leading museums, hospitals, and hotels. We also had individual clients.  One such came into the gallery on Third Avenue in 2013. Charulata Prasada said she had been living and working in Asia fulfilling her passion to serve underprivileged children and women. Now living in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, she had resumed another lifelong passion of making art. She had an oil painting of her children that she had done on a canvas pinned to a wall in her apartment. She wanted it stretched and framed, so she could give it to her father on his 80th birthday. Now I am also 80. Her work resonated with my staff who, raved about the colors and light.

I’ve seen a lot of art in my time, as you can imagine, and I’m also a collector of fine art, and American folk art. I knew she was a rare talent when she came to me. I also encouraged her to continue painting. This had to be her calling now. And over the next two years, until Charulata and her family had to relocate back to Canada, I promoted her work through my business, including helping her with a pop-up show in Tribeca in 2015. I’d wanted to introduce her to a gallery that I knew, but at the time she didn’t feel ready. That was a pity, because in my view she was ready and able.

I’m retired now, but we still stay in touch. And I continue to appreciate Charulata’s immense talent. I always say to her:

” KEEP MOVING FOWARD  NEVER LET YOUR SPEED SLOW DOWN”.
